A Trimont woman is facing a felony assault charge after authorities say she stabbed a man during a confrontation at a Martin County home. Forty-four-year-old Melissa Brase has been charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. According to court documents, deputies responded Tuesday to a report of a knife assault after Brase allegedly broke a window at a residence. Investigators say a fight broke out with the homeowner, and a man who stepped in to disarm Brase was stabbed in the shoulder. Another woman suffered a cut to her finger during the struggle. Court records also allege Brase threatened the victim with a machete before the stabbing. Brase is being held on $25,000 bail and is scheduled to make her next court appearance Monday. If convicted, she faces up to seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine.
