Fairmont Speech Team Places 3rd At State

Fairmont High School’s Speech Team placed third in the State Class A Competition held Friday at Shakopee High School.

Bringing home the first place honors in the Duo Interpretation category were Grace Simpson and Oliver Thedens. Theirs was the 20th individual championship medal in Fairmont High School state tournament history.

Leon Yang was second place in Humorous Interpretation, Alayna Haefner second place in Original Oratory, Cooper Gudahl was 4th in Prose Interpreation, Bel Lutterman was 4th in Original Oratory, Dominic Lund-May was fourth in Extemporaneous Speaking, and Zoey Tasseff was 8th in Creative Expression.

First place in the team competition was Mounds Park Academy with 69 points, Melrose was second with 58, and Fairmont third with 37. Staples-Motley and Mankato Loyola rounded out the top five in the Class A team scores.
