Cliff Janke, a 1973 graduate of Lead (SD) High School, has demonstrated excellence throughout his career of more than three decades as a coach and professional leader in the areas of Speech and Theater. Retail store chain Bomgaars has acquired the former Shopko building in Fairmont. Bomgaars offers supplies for homes, farms and families. The company currently operates 86 stores in Minnesota, Iowa, Colorado, Idaho, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming, employing approximately 2,400 people. Minnesota has six stores including one in Blue Earth. The corporate office and distribution center are located in Sioux City, where the company began in 1952. Martin County Commissioners on Tuesday heard from several employees of CHS Inc. who were present to discuss the details of their proposed $100 million project at the Fairmont site and to request a tax abatement from the county. The abatement is being proposed to be for up to 10 years beginning with real estate taxes payable in 2022 and continuing through 2031, inclusive and shall not exceed $423,930. The Martin County Board Tuesday: Reviewed the of CY2020 Preliminary Budget. At the last workshop a proposed tax levy increase was left at 9.4 per cent. This time commissioners whittled that down to 6.43 per cent. A MARTIN COUNTY COUPLE WANT PEOPLE TO BE AWARE OF A FAMILIAR SCAM THAT IS SURFACING AGAIN. THIS ONE HAS A CALLER CLAIMING THAT THEIR GRANDCHILD IS IN JAIL AND NEED THEM TO BAIL THEM OUT. THE CALLER SOMEHOW KNEW THE CHILD'S NAME AND WAS ASKING FOR $2000 THEN $4,000 TO BAIL THEM OUT. AS LAW ENFORCEMENT ENCOURAGES PEOPLE RECEIVING THIS TYPE OF CALL TO DO IS TRY TO CONTACT THE GRANDCHILD WHICH THIS COUPLE EVENTUALLY DID AND FOUND OUT THEY WERE SAFE.
