City Council – Budget

The Fairmont City Council approved a preliminary levy increase of $175,000, or 3.9 percent, for 2019. Paul Hoye, city finance director, outlined the proposed budget, which can be decreased but not increased before it is finalized at the council’s last meeting of the year, 6 p.m. Dec. 10.

The council approved a grant of $4,341 from the city’s demolition fund to Unke Inc. to cover half the cost of razing the former Behne’s Restaurant at 500 Lake Ave. to make room for additional parking for the Marina Lodge and Resort.

The Fairmont Council heard a presentation from the “Kids Just Want to Have Fun” committee about a proposed permanent mini golf course located next to the aquatic park. The city committed $25,000 in 2019, raised through liquor store profits, to help fund the $55,000 project, with the committee raising the remaining funds.
