Kids Just Want to Have Fun,” a part of the committee of the community organization Project 1590, has a new proposal in the planning stages, a mini golf course near the Fairmont Aquatic Park.

Committee members Ed Willett and Kristy Olson approached the Fairmont Park Board with the idea on Tuesday.

Initial thoughts were to provide the activity free of charge during open pool hours, but charge a nominal deposit to ensure the return of equipment. After hours, people could use the course if they had their own equipment. Nine holes are planned for the first phase, with an additional nine holes added as financing permits.

Willett said the group anticipates funding through grants, community donations and a “Fund a Hole” campaign, but a contribution from the city would be welcome.

Troy Nemmers, city engineer/public works director, said the city would adopt its preliminary budget for 2019 at the City Council’s Sept. 24 meeting and recommended the committee return with an advanced design and budget at the park board’s Sept. 18 meeting.
