Tom Nelson, Director of Economic Development for the city of Jackson is announcing his candidacy for the District 23A seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives. Nelson will seek the Republican endorsement for the seat held by retiring Representative Bob Gunther of Fairmont.
Nelson is an officer in the Minnesota Army National Guard, a past Director of the Minnesota American Legion Boys State Program, Founder of the Jackson Area Young Professionals organization, a member of the Jackson American Legion, Sons of the American Legion and Pheasants Forever.
“We need to continue to have strong leadership to bring forth economic growth, good jobs and education to attract and retain families, grow a strong agricultural economy and a good road system.” Nelson said.
As a Jackson homeowner and leader in economic development, Nelson said he wants to reduce the tax and regulatory burdens, especially with the sensitivity of representing a district that borders another state. Nelson is also strongly pro-life and a defender of the 2nd amendment.
“I look forward to continuing the example set by Representative Gunther of having strong and effective leadership at the state capitol,” Nelson said. “I will work hard to maintain high ethical standards, impactful leadership and working to a bring strong, conservative voice to the House of Representatives. I will campaign hard in every single part of our district.”
Nelson grew up in southwestern Minnesota, working on his family’s farm and graduated from Bethel University.
