The Fairmont Area School Board Tuesday approved a two-year contract agreement with the school’s business manager, Chris Muhvich, for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years. There will be no salary increase for 2019-20, but a 3.8 percent increase for 2020-21.
The pay for school board members will remain the same at $1,800 per year, but compensation for each additional meeting pertaining to school board matters will be raised from $70 to $100 for a full day and from $25 to $50 for a partial day.
The board approved the hiring of Greg Maday as a high school science teacher for 2019-20. He has been teaching at Jackson County Central for seven years.
The board also approved the hire of Tom Seifert for the head custodian position at Fairmont Elementary School.
The operations committee reviewed meal prices. While student lunch prices will not change, there will be a 10-cent increase for an adult lunch and a 5-cent increase for an adult breakfast.
The board on Tuesday ratified no fee increases for student activities for the 2019-20 school year, as per the operations committee recommendation.
Dance team, trapshooting and mock trial were added to the activities schedule. Dance team members will be assessed the same fee as other athletic teams. No fee will be assessed for trapshooting because team members pay an association fee. Mock trial participants will not be assessed a fee because the advisers are volunteers.
The operations committee also reviewed the activities admission fee schedule. The only change recommended was to lower the cost of an individual adult ticket from $7 to $6. Last year, the school board approved providing free admission to all children ages 18 and under.
