The Minnesota Supreme Court held a traveling oral argument in front of students at Fairmont High School on Wednesday. Fairmont students in grades 9-12 attended, along with students from Martin County West, Truman, Martin Luther, Granada-Huntley-East Chain, Redwood Falls and from Blue Earth Area’s law class. The event took place in the Performing Arts Center at Fairmont High School.

Students were then given the opportunity to ask questions. Chief Justice Lori Gildea said she enjoys these trips to schools in outstate Minnesota. She said students asked very good questions afterward and it was very inspiring.

The justices were given a tour of the school , spoke to some classesand were served lunch, prepared by students in the ProStart Culinary Arts program at Fairmont High School.

Justice Barry Anderson said he was not a stranger to Fairmont,having worked for the Erickson Law Firm from 1979-1983.

When the justices were choosing what school in outstate Minnesota to visit for this year’s traveling oral argument, Anderson suggested Fairmont .

Justice Pauls Thissen , a former member of the state legislature ,including several years has Speaker of the House.and newest member of the Supreme Court, said he most enjoyed thes traveling oral arguments.

Other State Justices included; David L. Lillehaug, Anne K. McKeig, Natalie E. Hudson, Margaret H. Chutich .
