The Fairmont City Council voted 3-2 Monday to accept the low bid of $340,000 for construction of an extension to the Cedar Creek Park trail.
The multi-purpose trail will extend from the current termination point near Dutch Creek and create a loop that intersects the existing trail. Part of the project will be paid for with a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources $150,000 grant.
COUNCILORS Bruce Peters and Wayne Hasek cast dissenting votes.
Council members Jim Zarling, Ruth Cyphers and Tom Hawkins supported accepting the bid.
Four bids for the proposed 3,200-foot loop were received, with the highest coming in at $575,000, and Ground Zero Services of Courtland submitting the winning bid, which was almost $17,000 less than the engineer’s project estimate.
