The Fairmont City Council took the first step on Monday to sell 11 lots the city acquired as tax forfeiture properties. The council approved the first reading of the ordinances to sell the properties, with the second reading and final vote set for their Nov. 23 meeting. Since acquiring these properties through tax forfeiture, the city has razed the blighted buildings on the lots and has performed all maintenance such as mowing and sidewalk snow removal. Selling the properties to private owners will put them back on the tax rolls. Four of the properties were determined to be in the best interest of the city to transfer ownership of 103 South Orient St., 850 South Park Street,503 North Elm Street and 1030 North Elm Street to those who had bid on them. 7 other properties will be put on public auction in accordance with the Housing Demolition Program Policy.
In other business the council approved the appointment of Debra Goerndt to the H R A Board.
