Minnesota freshman Republican Rep. Jim Hagedorn from Blue Earth said Wednesday his treatment for advanced kidney cancer is going “exceedingly well” and that immunotherapy is killing his cancer cells.
Hagedorn, 57, was diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer on Feb. 15, 2019, and has received care and immunotherapy at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, this past year.
Hagedorn said he had one of his regularly scheduled checkup appointments at the Mayo Clinic last week.
“I’m feeling great and working hard. Rest assured, I will keep fighting cancer and fighting for America and the people of southern Minnesota,” he said in a statement.
Hagedorn plans to seek reelection this year. Since being sworn into office in January 2019, Hagedorn said he has held 26 town hall meetings, made 44 round trips to and from Washington, D.C. and has not missed a single vote due to illness.
Hagedorn said his cancer was detected during a routine medical exam and that he did not have any symptoms.
