Fairmont 2020 Graduate Tyson Geerdes handed over the reins to YOCO (Youth Coalition) student leadership team recently.

Geerdes stepped down from the position of President of the County-Wide Youth Coalition (YOCO) board before departing Fairmont to start the next chapter of his life in the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. Geerdes has been in the president’s position since August 2019. He established the President Position and created the by-laws for the board when he was asked by members of the MCSAP (Martin County Substance Abuse Prevention) Coalition board to help build a united leadership in the prevention of underage drinking, vaping, marijuana and other drug abuse in Martin County YOCO groups.

The new student leadership group will be asking all the other YOCO groups in Martin County to encourage one or two members to represent their student group in the county-wide leadership board to unite their prevention efforts across the schools and communities in Martin County to help unify their prevention work in their schools and communities. They will then vote to fill the position of President and other leadership positions for the county-wide board starting in August 2020.

YOCO is open to anyone who is a student in grades 7-12 in Martin County who would like to be a leader in the prevention of underage drinking, vaping, marijuana use, and other drug abuse.  If you want to join YOCO, visit our website: www.MCSAPCoalition.com
