The Padres cruised past the Twins 8-1 to sweep their series in San Diego. Walker Buehler was credited with the win after striking out four batters over six innings. Fernando Tatis Jr. led the way at the plate after going four for five with two home runs and four RBIs. San Diego has won four of its last five games. Kody Funderburk was charged with the loss after allowing two runs on two walks. Minnesota has dropped three straight.
The Vikings could be looking for answers at backup quarterback. Minnesota dropped its only preseason game at home, falling 13-3 to the Ravens at US Bank Stadium over the weekend. Three quarterbacks combined to throw for 234 yards and a pick while getting sacked five times. The Vikes close out the preseason with a visit to the Denver Broncos on Friday.
Minnesota United FC cruised past the Earthquakes with a 5-1 victory in San Jose. Kelvin Yeboah led the way with two goals. Joaquin Pereyra, Marcus Caldeira and Mauricio Gonzalez also scored for the Loons, who will host Orlando City SC on Saturday at Allianz Field.
The start of the college football season is right around the corner. North Dakota State begins its first FBS season during Week Zero on Saturday. The Bison are hosting Jacksonville State in Fargo. North Dakota opens the year on Thursday against Long Island at Alerus Center. South Dakota hosts Central Connecticut on Saturday. South Dakota State hosts Stetson on Saturday.
