(Sherburn) The Sherburn City Council has voted to keep Cornerstone Management in place at Temperance Lake Ridge through 2027. During Monday’s meeting, Cornerstone representative Ryan Ravallette reported the facility’s financial situation has improved significantly. The shortfall is now about 4-thousand dollars over budget, compared with a roughly 275-thousand-dollar shortfall earlier this year. Revenue is up about 48-thousand dollars, while expenses have been reduced. The council approved continuing with Cornerstone on a 3-to-1 vote, with one abstention. Council members said another management change could create additional turmoil for residents and staff. They also asked Cornerstone to provide more frequent financial reports and immediately report significant changes in occupancy or revenue. The council also heard from Fire Chief Mike Ringnell, who said the department is looking to purchase a new ambulance. The department currently has 180-thousand dollars set aside and plans to pursue fundraising and grants. The council approved putting the department on the manufacturer’s waiting list, which currently has about 25 departments ahead of Sherburn. The department handles about 350 ambulance calls a year and also provides service to Ceylon, Dunnell and Trimont. The council also discussed reopening the Sherburn Theatre, with a six-month contract expected to be signed. Movies could begin being shown in November following the school play. The council approved 30-mile-per-hour and possible child-warning signs for Cargill Avenue and discussed playground grants, the sale of the pocket park and upcoming city budget and building concerns.
