(Blue Earth County) A mother and son charged in connection with the killing of a North Mankato teenager are back in jail. Eighteen-year-old Ryan Wolner and 53-year-old Christa Wolner are being held in the Blue Earth County Jail on pending charges related to allegedly owning or possessing a machine gun, trigger activator or machine gun conversion kit. Both had been out on bail after being charged earlier this month in Nicollet County in connection with the death of Tyson Goodsell. (Fairmont) The Fairmont School Board is considering putting another building bond referendum before voters. The district’s previous 21-point-7-million-dollar referendum failed in November 2025. It included improvements to the fine arts learning center, a secure entry and office addition, locker room renovations, building updates and districtwide maintenance projects. Superintendent Andy Traetow says the district is now reviewing inflation and construction lead times to determine what a new proposal could look like. (Fairmont) Fairmont city officials have settled on a location and size for new pickleball courts, but final design work is on hold for now. The City Council Monday unanimously approved a plan for four tournament-ready courts at the north corner of the Jeffery Kot soccer fields. Shade structures are included, while lighting and landscaping could be added later. The decision follows a city survey that received 247 responses. Sixty-five percent of respondents preferred an indoor pickleball facility, while 54 percent favored four courts. (Windom) Two people from Fairmont were injured in a motorcycle accident late on Sunday evening. Trent Johnson was riding a 2007 Kawasaki and Donna Johnson was on a 2006 Honda Cruiser. They were travelling northbound on highway 71 when they struck a deer. Both were transported to Sanford in Sioux Falls with serious injuries. Neither rider was wearing a helmet. Windom police department, Windom ambulance, Cottonwood County Sheriff’s office and Jackson County Sheriff’s office all responded to the scene. FAIRMONT — The city of Fairmont is asking residents for input on potential improvements to the downtown area. A new online survey is open through September 11th, asking what could encourage people to spend more time downtown, including easier parking, outdoor dining, better lighting, public art, greenspace and a cleaner appearance. The project area covers downtown from Main Street to Park Street and Blue Earth Avenue to Fourth Street. Midway opens up at 1:00 today and has unlimited rides for $27 from 1:00 to 5:00. Timberworks Lumberjack Shows are at 2:00, 4:00 and 6:00 today. There are many 4H and FFA shows happening today and registration for the kids tractor pedal pull happens at 4:00 outside the Fair Office. TRUMAN — Truman Ambulance has received a $15,000 grant from the Fairmont Community Hospital Foundation to purchase a specialized bariatric cot, one of the few available in southern Minnesota. The ramp and winch system can safely handle patients weighing up to 1,600 pounds and is designed to reduce lifting and improve safety for both patients and emergency personnel. The cot has been in service for about a month. Because similar equipment is rare in the region, Truman Ambulance is also available for requests from surrounding emergency services. MANKATO — A Shakopee man charged in connection with the May murder of Tyson Goodsell is now facing an additional felony charge. Ahmed Fuad Mohamud is charged with felony threats of violence after allegedly  threatening to kill a person during monitored and recorded jail phone calls. According to the criminal complaint, Mohamud allegedly made repeated threats during a three-way phone call on July 14, telling the victim he would kill him, even if it took years before he was released from jail. FAIRMONT — The Martin County Jail has been recognized as one of just 20 employers in Minnesota to receive an Above and Beyond Award from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. The award recognizes employers who provide support to National Guard and Reserve members beyond what is legally required. The 17-member staff currently includes two full-time correctional deputies serving in the Guard or Reserves. The jail was then selected from more than 230 eligible Minnesota employers.
